WhatsApp will stop working on certain older iPhone models starting May 5, as the messaging platform phases out support for iOS 15.1 and earlier versions. The decision is part of WhatsApp’s broader strategy to focus on devices that support its latest features and security updates.
According to the company, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus will no longer be able to run WhatsApp. These models, discontinued by Apple in 2016, cannot be updated to newer iOS versions, effectively ending WhatsApp compatibility on them.
WhatsApp has stated that newer app features require modern system support which outdated operating systems cannot provide. The app will continue functioning only on iOS 15.2 and above, making it essential for users to upgrade their devices to stay connected.
