While the administration frames the budget as a realignment of national values—strengthening military power and border enforcement—lawmakers and economists are questioning its long-term impact on American households.

The IRS would lose over $2 billion in funding, potentially affecting tax collection and enforcement. Simultaneously, the administration wants to extend tax cuts from 2017, raising fears of worsening the already massive $36 trillion national debt.

“This is about ending the era of decline and putting our people first,” said OMB Director Russ Vought. But with growing pushback from Congress, the budget is likely to be a major battleground in the months ahead.
