ICT demands explanation after audio leak allegedly features Hasina threatening judiciary

In a dramatic legal development, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has issued a show-cause notice to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Shakil Alam Bulbul, a leader of the banned student group Bangladesh Chhatra League, in a contempt of court case tied to a controversial leaked audio clip.

The tribunal, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, took action on Wednesday after reviewing a forensic report confirming the authenticity of the audio. In the viral clip, a voice identified as Hasina’s is heard saying, “I have received a licence to kill 227 people.”

The ICT believes the audio represents interference in judicial matters and includes direct threats to the tribunal. “This is a serious contempt of court issue,” said ICT Prosecutor Gazi M H Tamim, adding that the individuals have until May 15 to respond to the notice.

The audio, which surfaced late last year, quickly spread across social media platforms and sparked widespread controversy. “The investigation agency confirmed through forensic analysis that the voice in the clip belongs to Hasina,” Tamim added.
